Israel Launches Winter Passport Discount to Save Citizens Money

The Israeli Population and Immigration Authority has officially launched its 'Winter Passport' campaign, a strategic initiative designed to alleviate the seasonal pressure on government service centers while providing financial relief to citizens. Starting November 1, 2026, and continuing through February 28, 2027, the government is offering discounted rates for passport issuance and renewal. This move is part of a broader effort to encourage the public to handle administrative travel requirements during the off-peak winter months rather than waiting for the high-demand periods of spring and summer.

The economic incentive is substantial. For an adult renewing or applying for a new passport, paying online during this period results in a savings of 105 shekels compared to standard online rates. The benefits extend to families as well; a family of four, consisting of two parents and two children, could save up to 280 shekels by utilizing the discounted rates. Furthermore, specific groups, including mandatory military service members, reservists, and national service volunteers, are eligible for additional discounts on top of the already reduced winter pricing.

One of the most convenient aspects of this initiative is the flexibility it offers. While the payment must be completed during the winter promotional period, the actual appointment to finalize the passport issuance at a government office can be scheduled as late as April 30, 2027. This allows citizens to lock in the lower price now and complete the physical process at a time that suits their schedule, effectively bypassing the long queues that typically form as the Passover holiday and summer vacation season approach.

To take advantage of these savings, citizens are encouraged to use the official government portal or the self-service kiosks located throughout the country. The process requires payment via credit card, with the cardholder present. It is important to note that appointments for in-person visits must still be booked in advance through the Govisit system. By shifting the demand away from the peak travel seasons, the Population and Immigration Authority hopes to improve service efficiency and reduce the overall burden on its staff. This proactive approach not only benefits the individual traveler’s wallet but also contributes to a smoother, more organized experience for everyone involved in the passport issuance process.
